In this podcast Laura had the honour to hangout with Rachel Jackson.
Rachel is the founder of Superior Smiles in Knutsford, Cheshire. Her last 17 years have been a journey of discovery, learning, upskilling, and refining in the field of dentistry. She has over 12 years’ experience as a practice manager and treatment coordinator and 3 years ago she accomplished her goal of opening a practice where the patient is at the centre of every thought process. Having worked alongside many highly skilled clinicians in high-end private practices has given her the insight, knowledge and experience to work with her team in delivering a professional, positive, and comfortable end-to-end experience for every patient. Rachel is extremely passionate about dentistry and feels privileged to work within a profession where she can make a true difference to people’s lives.
Our listeners sent in some great questions around:
Laura and Rachel also discussed how important it has been to have clinical knowledge (of advanced procedures such as smile makeovers and rehab) in Rachel's role as a TCO, and practice owner.
Welcome to season four of the Horton Hangout podcast!
Holly and her business partner Chelsea have both been successfully helping dentists build their brand and follower lists for many years. Holly's agency ‘Drive' operates in a really unique way, utilising video content in a way I have not known before for social media. This year Chelsea and Holly teamed up and are now Social Drive. Their clients are the UK's leading dental clinics and clinicians.
In this podcast the voices and faces behind the Instagram profile for Horton Consulting bring to you the real meaning of the quotes uploaded over the last 18 months on the subject of kindness and support.
Nice and kind are two different things. What is kindness? Telling someone they have lipstick on their teeth or food in their teeth.
In this podcast we discuss how your business can:
Lastly we discuss the importance of taking care of yourself.
Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others.
See you in May 2020 for season 4.

In the last podcast of 2019 and the decade, Michael Bentley turns the tables and interviews Laura Horton. Was she nervous, out of her comfort zone and feeling very awkward? Yes, but she has shared parts of her story with you here in this podcast.
Michael loves Laura’s grass roots story, how she fell into dentistry by accident and has for the last 11 years developed a business that was born from a love of dentistry. In this interview, you will discover Laura’s path to setting up Horton Consulting in 2008, as the recession broke.
Michael describes the interview as personal, honest and inspiring to many and we hope you enjoy it.
Esther is the owner of two dental practices, is a mother of 3 and has a business in reflexology.
Esther is the owner and founder of Visage Dental Spa and had a vision whilst training at Dental Collage of opening her own dental practice. Esther was training as a dental hygienist and wanted to create a practice that was different, more than just a dentist. She was passionate about dental hygiene and education and wanted her practice to be hygiene led, focused on prevention.
Now the vision has become a reality. Visage Dental Spa Harpenden was brought to reality in June 2016.
The team ensure every hygiene appointment not only cleans, brightens and whitens teeth but also focuses on educating clients to maintain a healthy mouth.
All of the dentists are carefully selected to deliver a professional, caring service. They offer patients not only examinations but cosmetic procedures to help people feel confident about their smile.
Esther is determined to create a space where people want to come with their families to keep their teeth and gums in prime condition.
Esther's attention to detail and passion to encourage people to "love their smile" is reflected in the spa style of practice she has created. From the moment you walk in the door it feels different, the smell, the welcome and the environment is relaxing. Hence the ‘spa’ like environment
In May 2019, Esther took over a Periodontal and Implant referral practice in St Albans. The staff are continuing to work alongside her and she has brought new specialists to the team, dentists, hygienist, nurses and treatment co-ordinators to ensure the 5 star service is continued.
Handling expectations and results for a new treatment coordinator, the implications of patients' cancelling late in a very busy hygienist book and adding in your employee benefits to recruitment advertisements. The three questions we answered in this month's Horton Hangout.
